FWI Dell Just Lowered The List Of All Their Monitors •*30" $1279 24" $679 Right Now (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productlisting.aspx?c=us&category_id=6198&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs). We paid $1349 last week in a sale and now it's been trumped. New 30" list is only $1599 and 24" list is $799.
2007FP 20" 1600x1200 is now only $359.20 (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-4687). This is amazing.
A quick question. Does Dell's 30" monitor have the AC adaptor which covers 100 V to 240 V and 50 Hz - 60 Hz? The spec on 24" showed it does. But, I was not able see that spec on 30".

Timeline of my usual events for an Apple conference, all times are in AEST:
10pm: Some sort of massive leak comes out and we all post madly about it.
11pm: Someone figures out the leak must be fake and we all post madly about it.
12am: The hour of silence as all the Americans try to grab a few hours sleep.
1am: The east-coast of the US starts to wake up and post madly about the leak - the Europeans post endless "It's a fake, here's the link." posts, the Aussies who are awake begin to get incoherent in their posts (who me?).
2am: The forums are brought to a halt by an influx of newbies asking what the chinese writing on this picture of a "Video I-Pod" means.
3am: Kick-off, macrumourslive starts running their text updates, I fall asleep at least three times during the conference and wake up each time hoping I haven't missed anything cool.
4am: Conference is either still going or winding down, if it's still going, I fall asleep yet again, if it's winding down I get a tab going and reloading apple.com/au till all the information comes online.
5am: Conference is definitely over, forum may be flakey but online - hundreds are disappointed and vow to "wait for rev B" whilst hundreds more are refuting their claims of disappointment with long posts about money. I don't care because I'm asleep.
11am: Wha? Who? Where? Oh yeah? Time to get up. Pack up laptop and hop down to the net caf� to watch the Quicktime movies that have appeared on the Apple site at proper speed (not dial-up).
1pm: Lunch somewhere.
2pm: Net caf� again for uninterrupted stream of keynote.
3pm - 4pm: Reading forums for interesting tid-bits I'd missed, start thinking about a beer.
5pm: Pub, pretending not to be a Mac nerd who has just stayed up most the night looking at websites.
8pm: Home, dinner, hopefully not making the long distance call to Bourke on the porcelain telephone.
Thus endeth Apple Conference Day. For MWSF add 2 hours to the time.

My dermashot case came in on Friday.. been using it since.
My initial thoughts - this case looks cheap and has a loose feel.
My thoughts now - the case has a nice style and even though it is not as snug as it should be, it fits fine. It has not fallen off at all and has a real nice feel too.
As one of the first to get the Dermashot (see earlier posts in this thread), I’ve been living with it for a while now...and the loose fit has really become annoying. Sometimes, I have to “feel around” to get the power to toggle off since the button doesn’t want to stay properly aligned with the corresponding “lump” on the case.
The one upside is that it does keep its nice jet black finish—isn’t a dust or fingerprint magnet like others.
My quest for the perfect case continues...... :(

3. Still buggy. For example - I just had to restart Safari to type in this field.
It does feel very slick though, app launch times, the smoothness of the animations and scrolling all make the machine feel MUCH faster than it does in Snow Leopard.
I've had that problem in both developer previews as well. At first I didn't mind it, but the more it happens the more annoying it gets.

just bought a core solo mac mini a week ago.. kind of weird I did the same when the iBooks were moved go G4 a while back, a couple of weeks earlier I had bought a G3 model..
oh well.. it's still a great machine. with a bit more memory it'll do just fine as the build machine for our software.

For some time, Handbrake didn't use more than two cores - owners of Quad G5s reported CPU usage of exactly 50 percent, then someone changed it and Quad G5s reported 100 percent CPU usage.
What we don't know: Was the code changed to use up to four processors, or as many processors as are available? Developers are usually very unwilling to ship code that they haven't been able to try out, so expect a version using eight cores about two days after the developers have access to an eight core machine.
In the case of Handbrake, encoding to MPEG4 seems already limited by the speed of the DVD drive; you can't encode faster than you can read from the DVD. H.264 is still limited by processor speed. Using eight cores is not too difficult; for example, if you encode 60 minutes of video, just give 7 1/2 minutes to each core.I almost NEVER use handbrake from an optical DVD. Rentals are definitely the way to go. I've only seen the Lost episodes I've downloaded once. They're just eating space on my hardrive. And if there were streaming theatrical releases, well, I'd be in heaven. I'm pissed that A Scanner Darkly isn't playing in my area, but I've watched the first 25 min. at IGN.com in HD. I'd definitely spend $1.99 to escape expensive tickets and annoying people.
According to MOSR, (:rolleyes: ) 10.5 will include some sort of "rewards-based" BitTorrent system. (:rolleyes: ) But if the Movie store also used bittorrent, it would make more sense to announce it at WWDC.

I am very uncomfortable with the intervention in Libya. I'd rather take my chances with an old pile of an American car, because at least it will be cheaper to fix constantly.
Old BMWs are great if you like $1000 surprises. For the price you'll pay in repairs, you could have a car 2.5 times more expensive with a regular, planned, budgeted payment.
I am not to worried about that. I can do my own repairs, my last cars were major project cars. I have done pretty much everything (engine swaps, transmission swaps, etc.). Parts are not much more than I am used to, and since I won't be paying for labour does not really affect me.
Plus this guy seems like he really takes care of the car.
It depends on whether the car has received regular maintenance or not. There is no substitute for a thorough pre-purchase inspection by a competent BMW shop.
I am the original owner of my 330Ci and over the life of the car my average annual maintenance costs, excluding tires, have been $1300. The car is coming up on 9 years old and has a bit over 100k miles on it. I plan to keep the car for a good long while as I continue to enjoy owning and driving it.
The E46 forum on bimmerfest.com (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=98) is generally a good source of information. Review the wiki (http://www.bimmerfest.com/wiki/index.php/BMW_E46) before asking questions. sorry, but wherever you got your information, it is not correct. fwiw, my last car, a vw passat, i sold with 312k miles on it. i bought it new at the dealer. still had the original clutch. your 100k replacement claim is bogus.
highway mileage is different due to gear ratios, not "physically locked". automatics use different ratios than manuals, even with same engine. shift speed is irrelevant for mileage.
and lastly, manuals do not cost more. every car i've ever owned, new or old, including my 2007 porsche 911, have come standard with a manual transmission. if you want automatic, that's an option you pay extra for, several $thousand in some cases. i've never owned an American car, so maybe the domestics are different, but your blanket statement is still wrong.
on my wife's mercedes, it needs automatic fluid change every 30k miles. dealer charges ~$300 for this. That's $1000 in service in 90k miles assuming nothing breaks. My manual transmission requires no service or fluid changes for 100k miles. $1000 in maintenance vs $0 in maintenance. automatic is far more expensive from a maintenance standpoint.
Umm porsche not exactly a valid argument of a car and that falls in the sports car catigory. Complete different field.
As for the clutchs 300k on a original clutch is pretty far unless you do heavy high way miles there.
Going heavy city lets see I had to replace the clutch in my old car at around 95k. My dad replaced the clutch in is Honda at 110k. Numbers I have been reading off the net about my current car clutches are going at 90-120k range. Now it does depend on driving. You are not going to find mean 300k on a original clutch. 100k is more the norm. Big time with city miles on it.
Also my car manual cost me more about 1000 bucks more but at it is a higher model as the model right below it is auto only. Manuals are being mostly reduced to sporter car lines/models now days leaving autos for everything else.

I'm with you. My classic is so handy and useful. I have it loaded with music, videos, data, podcasts, it's just a terrific all around device. If they increase the capacity, I'll buy a new one upon release. Classic is the perfect name for this valuable device.

It's a nice idea, but WAY too pricey. I don't know what makes them think people will be willing to pay these prices when the DVD is available for just a little bit more (in some cases the same or less) and includes special features, probably better quality, and no DRM.
If the studios insist on this kind of pricing for all download services, it will just drive people to bittorrent and netflix. It's just silly to insist that pricing be as much as DVD when you don't get as much for your money.
The rumors also haven't addressed picture quality. I assume it will be an improvement, and it DEFINITELY won't be HD...but will it be even DVD quality? I'd say that's the bare minimum for something like this to even be considered by most consumers.

No idea what film that is, but I do spy Handbrake on the MacBook, which looks identical to the one that I just retired. My optical drive in that machine was starting to go, I think. Only thing I've used the one in the new MacBook Pro for is to reinstall the OS after I got it...

i think the main thing instead of saying apple is a full 64-bit company is to say they are a full dual-core company, which if they put in meron, one will have to still be single core. dual core yonah or single core meron? (in the base machine)
Fully dual-core doesn't sound particularly impressive, and I think other companies can claim that they are fully dual-core as well.
It's Merom, by the way.
I'd rather them put the Yonah in and lower the price.
