hopefully there will also be a slight speed bump & lowering of price to tide people over till september without feeling ripped off when they buy one.

My contract ends in may but i dont want to wait till september for a contract renewal.

Vista looks like OS X so switching wouldn't be as big a pain.:)

Except that getting a computer that will run Vista WELL (not just "run" it) will be a pain in your wallet, probably more expensive than a mac for a while (unless you just dual boot it :) ). The other problem is that you would have to rebuy all of your software, mess with all of the incompatibilities with Vista and the constant performance and security updates, hope that WGA doesn't conk out on you, etc. Trust me, the bundle of fun that is Vista is just too much for most :p.

Now I can't sell it anymore for a good price:(

eBay people are dumb.. sell NOW! People come on here, a Mac forum, still asking when the transition to Intel is gonna start.

You'll be fine, believe me LOL.

I first heard the news while randomly checking Facebook. And then the ESPN iPhone app alerted me. :p

Actually, you know what I missed out?
    SpotLight! ....

Don't have any use for Expose, but I use Spotlight quite a bit.

Panther was fine for me; if I'd stuck with that version, then I probably would have been OK.

    That's a neat trick, but it's still a crash. ... :)

OSX was my problem, which I did find surprising.

I think we're just polar opposites. I've been fine with all versions of OS X. I use Expos all the time but I may have used Spotlight like 5 times. Of course if we had Tiger at work I'd probably use it a lot more!

Airplay enabled TV has always been Apple's dream and this is going to be very big for Apple.

AT&T has hands down the worst service I have ever experienced.

It is as though they were operating in an emerging mobile phone world sometime in the early 80's when phones were the size of a Sat phone or you carried it in its own portable case.

In all the years I was with Verizon I had maybe 10 dropped calls.

They should be ashamed of themselves. But really what do they care, they have the iphone exclusively for the time being.
I must say this reflects poorly on Apple who picked these idiots in the first place.

Honestly, on a day to day basis, I think about going back and just giving up, the service is just terrible and I live in NYC! Where there are towers everywhere, and I usually have 5 bars.

Despicable profit seeking, customer service unfriendly whores is what they are!Blame Verizon then. Apple approached Verizon first, and Verizon was unwilling to allow Apple to have full control over the OS, the design of the iPhone

itself, or to make concessions regarding profit sharing. CDMA would not have been an ideal choice for a global phone, in any event.

    Hi,

I'm thinking of switching from Verizon to AT&T to get the iPhone. However, I'm hearing horror stories of up to 30% dropped calls in the NY area.

For all iPhone/AT&T users in northern NJ and NYC area, can you verify that you experience around 30% of dropped calls?? is this true??

    http://gizmodo.com/5370493/apple-genius-bar-iphones-30-call-drop-is-normal-in-new-york

I want the iPhone, but not if it comes with such bad service!!

    Thank you,

olimits7Northern NJ: zero dropped calls, excellent coverage overall.

Not surprising...because it sells for $49?

If I were in the market for a smartphone and could choose a $49 iPhone 3GS vs. a $199+ iPhone 4 vs. a $199+ Android...I would very very seriously consider the 3GS since it is AT LEAST 4x cheaper...and in reality, does 99% of the iPhone 4 (I have the 3GS and as far as I can tell the 4 simply added Facetime and a front camera for facetime use).

That's pretty faulty math there. In reality, it's not 4x cheaper.
Pick AT&T:s cheapest plan, and you would pay $1369 for the 3GS and plan, for a 4 you would pay $1520 for the phone and plan. So you pay 90% of the cost of a 4 with plan and you'll only get an 3GS, a phone that's already passed by the 4, and will shortly be passed by 4S or 5.

    I can't understand anyone who would consider buying a 3GS instead of a 4.
If you're unable to pay another $150 to get a 4, then you probably should wait until 5 or 4S arrives, or just start saving money.

I want to see a Thunderbolt dock.

    Thunderbolt in on one side.

On the other side, USB, eSATA, Firewire 800, Displayport out (for monitors), audio in/out, gigabit ethernet. Maybe even have space inside for an internal hard drive or two.

This way, when you get home and want to use your laptop at your desk with external monitor, keyboard, etc.. just plug in two cables. Thunderbolt and power.

This would be so awesome, and would pretty much eliminate the need for many of us to have a desktop machine.

I saw and got my hands on a possible prototype IMac that had a touchable screen and a smug free screen. It also had the earlier uncoded virtual keyboard in the Lion OS. though it was only a prototype but a very realistic one for production. I believe it to be the IMac I and my father both got our hands on earlier this year.:apple:

Finally, still confused as to why there is no 7200RPM drive option for the 15".

I wanna order with a glossy screen but i'm scared i wont be able to return this if it has probless. Isnt glossy screen a BTO option?

ANY change from the default spec is BTO (or CTO). The tech specs pages says:

"15.4-inch (diagonal) TFT display, support for millions of colors; optional glossy widescreen display"

Sounds like glossy is BTO to me.

Don't remove the , it indicates the sarcasm in that comment. I was pointing out to the guy the fallacy of his argument in diminishing Google's work that he was also diminishing Apple's work on OS X.

I believe both companies have a lot of merit for what they did. I'm not pro-anything or anti-anything here. The point of my comment was to say that Apple and Google put in a lot of effort into making their OSes.

Now you're arguing what exactly aside from just wanting to insult me ?

I don't know if he was talking foul about Apple's work.

Absolutely true ? When did Web browsers start to do process scheduling, user input, graphical sub-systems, GUI frameworks, hardware interaction, etc.. etc..

Chrome OS is much more than a browser, it's very much a OS who's desktop environnement happens to be a Web browser, rather than a file explorer like Finder.

So you think, Google's Chrome OS invented or made all these things possible?
    Were there no browsers before?

Again, let's drop the Google hate. It has no place in this thread. Why do you insist on beating on them ? Leave the corporate politic between Steve and Eric (now Larry) and let's discuss OS X some.

    Sure, lets drop that. Sure.

I don't insist. I for once really like them on certain grounds, but absolutely don't on the other. Similarly with Apple; as both are for-profit organizations.

Your definition of a "professional" app seems mighty arbitrary, even to the extent of excluding most applications that exist. Specialized databases that are designed for a specific industry wouldn't meet your definition. Computer-Aided-Machining (CAM) software (which is only useful in one industry) wouldn't meet your definition. I could go on, but I think you get my point.

No, I don't get your point. CAM software is used in a variety of industries. Auto companies, airline companies, boat industries, tools industries, machine shops, agricultural industries. But if the CAM software is a mature useful standard in those industries it is probably a very capable pro app. Like wise customized databases would not be a pro app in itself. The database program used is the pro app not the specific database.

So now you're adding another level of definition to what it takes to be a "professional" app? Some percentage of people have to know about it? And where do you draw the line? Gee, I guess this means that any start-up company trying to produce a new professional application is doomed because how can they ever reach this percentage upon the release so their product can be considered "professional"?

It is not another level of defiintion. Industry standard implies that most professionals use it, Doesn't it?

Yes, it is very very difficult for a startup company to produce a competitive pro app in a mature industry. It takes several years for a product to mature and recieve user feedback and multiple modifications before I would classify it as "Pro". That is why these are difficult markets to crack.
