That is why iPhone (4) sales will remain close to zero until the iPhone 5 introduction. A white iPhone 4 will not change that very much.
????? When did this happen? You do realize that 99% of consumers don't follow this stuff that close and have no idea when products are released.

It's only ****ing capitalism when Apple does something and has the audacity to charge for it. When any other company does it, it's just good business.
People will complain about anything.
I take it with a grain of salt, there's not that many people that are truly Anti-Apple, and those are the ones I don't care about anyway.
Bottom line, I get to enjoy lots of Apple gear, AND benefit as my stock skyrockets.
Now that, is the "Magic" of great Apple Hype, Marketing, and Influence.
Mikey's parents will buy him anything...ha..ha...ha...:D

is this 4.8% for the quarter or 4.8% total market share? if the former, nice, but no big deal; if the latter then very big deal.
It's 4.8 % total market share for the quarter. ;)
It's more than it was and so it is a big deal. However, what matters is sustained growth not incidental spikes. If they continue to grow, they will have mind share as well as market share, especially with companies like Sophos telling consumers to buy Macs to keep their information secure.
Market share is an interesting figure anyway. It doesn't talk about the installed base, only about the very current sales figures.

You know what's funny? I've had ATT for over 5 years and have barely had 5 dropped calls and one of them was an iphone OS issue with OS 2.0. I live in the Silicon Valley so maybe coverage is just exceptionally good in my area, though I recall coverage being decent over in the Adirondacks in NY two years ago.

Thunderbolt would be a killer feature for this machine - and would open up a whole load of expansion options.
Sonnet are marketing a load of interesting accessories, from Gigabit ethernet and FW800 adapters, to RAID arrays, to full-size PCIe expansion card housings, all of which can connect via Thunderbolt.
Those CPUs are pretty fast. For everyone except gamers it should be a nice machine.
To be honest, if you carry a TB to FW, RAID, PCIe expansions, whats the point of carrying an Air?
Also, will they have to sacrifice a 2.0 USB port in order to intergrate a TB port?
Idk why people say that the update affects only gamers. It affects almost everyone. OpenGLs, 3D, movies, etc.
Although I do believe the CPU will have an amazing boost, I think the GPU sacrifice will be a very huge one. But only time will tell.

Not for what I'm doing. Pages strikes me as something for newsletters, not writing well-researched articles and novels.
Not true
I used Pages to do a college term paper which was over 40 pages long. My lecturer commented it was the best presented he had seen for years.
Perhaps the issue people are having with Pages is that it looks too easy compared to Word and that confuses them. You really do need to use Pages as a Word replacement to appreciate how good is actually is.
iWork '07 will be great.

Couldn't that be just because Windows security (or lack thereof) has already been thoroughly examined by the industry at large and therefore wasn't as high a priority?
Right, they were looking for a particular set of problems, specifically kernel bugs, which OSX and Linux have their fair share. Interestingly enough some of the wireless bugs affected more than one OS.
These are vulnerabilities, which obviously need to be addressed, but just because they found more kernel bugs in OSX, Linux, and BSD, doesn't mean Windows is suddenly 'secure.'

What will Apple offer that other manufactures can't?
A robust and thriving App Store.
The App Store will legitimize the Apple TV set.
I would go so far as to suggest the reason we don't have an App Store on the current Apple TV is because Apple is saving it as the compelling reason to buy an entire TV set.
Apple doesn't have to provide the reasons to buy the Apple TV set. Developers will do that for them. In the hundreds of thousands.
Pretty soon you won't be switching channels. You'll be switching apps.
My 2 cents.
Apple already has the ability to provide this by using :apple:TV2. Even when priced at $99 Apple is making money on each unit sold. And a software update can easily add support for iOS apps. I simply do not see Apple releasing their own Television when they can simply offer a new service on existing devices.

Does anyone have an idea of what (if anything) this does that Parallels doesn't? Parallels has done a great job and is really great except for the video acceleration. If someone could figure that out and let us play XP games in OS X I would be one happy guy.
I anticipate Fusion to be better than Parallels in the following area,
Virtualization of more than one CPU
Support for more than one network card
Better USB 1.1 implementation
USB 2.0
ACPI
More robust with multiple VMs
Far better customer support.

Couldn't find my old copy of the first game and been wanting a time-waster so I splurged and spent $5 on it in the discount bin. Get to play the sequels now too!
Wat? $5????!!
That is by far my fav gaming franchise.

Very true. Plus, turbo mode is mostly marketing hype. It should be called turbo fraud. It doesn't work the way it's advertised, ie, most of the time when you need it to. So, what you're really getting is a 1.4 GHZ computer that's advertised as a 2.3 GHZ one. That's taking marketing hype to the extreme. The only way I would buy a computer with one of Intel's turbo hyped CPU's is if the bottom score met my needs. I would never rely on the hyped theoretical upper score in making my decision and in this case 1.4 GHZ doesn't cut it for me.
Intel's marketing only specifies the base processor speed, not the turbo speed. For example, the i5-2537M under discussion here is advertised as a 1.4GHz chip. Guess what? Its base clock speed is 1.4GHz. It can turbo up to 2.3GHz but it is in no way advertised as being a 2.3GHz chip. Here is the product sheet directly from Intel:
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=54619&processor=i5-2537M&spec-codes=SR03W

I know somebody who was bipolar, and now that it's controlled by medication, he's a functioning, productive person. Before that he was manic, impossible to get along with, and self-destructive. I don't define that as "him".
I myself had a very different personality when I was in the grasp of depression. I damn near broke up my marriage, and I was often cruel to my kids. That wasn't "me". This is me. I look on myself back then and am embarrassed at a lot of what I said and did. Though I try to forgive myself for some of that, the fact of the matter is, I own it and I'll always carry a certain amount of guilt at things I did that I cannot take back.
Sheen only thinks he knows who he is right now.
And just so this post isn't a total downer...another "Who said it?" quiz (http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/03/its_time_to_play_sheen_beck_or.html). Only this one pits Charlie Sheen against Ghadafi and Glenn Beck. :D
I only got eight out of 15. :o

One of my mates in Taiwan actually got a white conversion kit for his iPhone4. I took a look last week and was actually dissapointed. It looks kind of cheap & gimmicky. And I don't believe that's related to the quality of the conversion. This was performed using genuine apple components and in that respect the fit and finish was perfect.

Well. You have answered my questions and thank you for that.
This is all the argument that I could ever hear from my colleagues who are not pro-apple or are anti-apple.
This is what you would here from an android fanboy as well.
I really like android. The reason I have Nexus S; though I was forced to some extent.
For me, there's no way for an android phone over an iPhone. In the US? Yes due to carrier interference but not otherwise.
OK? :D
Yes, can't really comment on non-US stuff. I'm sure overseas that the carriers are better, regarding updates, etc. At least that's what I hear...

I've seen the blue screen on XP. It's funny because I've been told by Windows users that it doesn't exist in XP, yet I witnessed it two weeks ago when a colleague of mine was trying to do something with Adobe Acrobat. The program just spazzed and the blue screen came up.
Your colleague either downloads porn/warez, or there is a potential hard drive physical failure (bad sectors on the disk), or he has crappy 3rd party drivers. Seriously, I've never seen the blue screen in XP and I've used XP since it came out on 3 computers plus work. These jokes on the XP blue screen are so misinformed that the laugh is on the joker. XP is very stable considering how much compatibility it has to provide for the infinite combinations of drivers, software and hardware.
